The Italian Job is about mastermind thief Charlie Croker, who pulls off an amazing gold bullion heist from a heavily guarded palazzo in Venice, Italy, only to be double-crossed by one of his crew, Steve. Seeking revenge, Charlie recruits Stella, a beautiful nerves-of-steel safe cracker. Together with his former gang, Charlie and Stella follow the backstabber to California where they plan to re-steal the gold by manipulating traffic signals and creating havoc on the streets of Los Angeles.
When it comes to racing games the GameCube comes up a bit short. Sure, F-Zero GX is on the horizon and looking mighty fine, but it is still a few months away. The PlayStation 2 has the Gran Turismo series and the Xbox has Project Gotham Racing. With 3DO's Street Racing Syndicate put on indefinite hold due to the company's untimely demise, Eidos' The Italian Job promised to be just what the doctor ordered. When The Italian Job was released in theatres in 1969, everyone on the face of the planet wanted to hop into a Mini and drive like a lunatic. Michael Caine's infamous line, "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" became one of the most quoted movie lines ever.
